Attention Medicaid Providers: The Washington State Health Care Authority (HCA) published an update to the Dental-related Services billing guide that is effective August 1, 2022.

All of the changes that have been made are listed at the beginning of the billing guide under the “What has changed?” section. The recent change clarifies the telehealth and telemedicine policy and creates an audio-only procedure code list.  As a reminder, health care providers, including dentists, are required to complete telehealth training if providing clinical telehealth services. Further, according to the HCA telehealth and telemedicine policy, Apple Health clients are eligible for medically necessary covered dental services through teledentistry, and providers are responsible for documenting that the teledentistry is medically necessary and falls within the teledentistry guidelines.
