Workers’ Compensation Premium Rate Increase – Jan. 1

Dec 19, 2022
Beginning Jan. 1, 2023, workers’ compensation premium rates will increase.

Beginning Jan. 1, 2023, workers’ compensation premium rates will increase an average of 4.8%, depending on each industry risk classification rate. The Department of Labor and Industries (L&I) is required by law to adjust rates annually, and this rate increase is necessary to ensure that premiums cover the expected costs of 2023 claims. L&I has updated premium rates to reflect the hazards of each industry and in accordance with insurance principles, as well as to ensure the solvency of the Accident, Medical Aid, and Supplemental pension funds.

More information regarding this rate increase is available in the L&I Concise Explanatory Statement and the L&I Rates for Workers’ Compensation page.
