Prescription Monitoring Program Upgrade

Aug 6, 2019
The Department of Health recently released information regarding a technology upgrade to the Prescription Monitoring Program (PMP).
The Department of Health recently released the following message regarding a technology upgrade to the Prescription Monitoring Program (PMP).

In June 2019, the Department of Health (DOH) signed a three-year extension on our contract with Appriss for continued operation of the Washington State Prescription Monitoring Program (PMP) system. The contract extension included an option to migrate the legacy PMP system, RxSentry, to Appriss’ AWARxE platform.

Over the last few weeks, DOH has worked with Appriss to examine the possibility of upgrading to the AWARxE platform. RxSentry is at the end of its life and will not be supported in the future. Given the options that the AWARxE platform will offer including updated metrics, faster processing speeds for data entry and queries, and a 24/7 customer service helpdesk, PMP has decided to take the necessary steps to implement Appriss’ AWARxE platform to ensure that our system and staff are maximizing both productivity and efficiency.

We are excited about this long overdue upgrade and will be moving forward in an expedient manner. We have already started the process to mobilize our resources to make this migration happen and are making initial arrangements with our IT Security Office for the AWARxE platform to undergo a security assessment.

We will be planning, testing and implementing the AWARxE platform over the next 6 to 8 months. All PMP system users will be offered ongoing education and training on the upgraded PMP AWARxE platform. We will continue to provide communication at critical implementation points to help mitigate the impacts of the system upgrade and promote stability and continuity of provider operations during daily business practices.
